Tamra Scheurman is owner of Tamra Scheurman Design. She started her own business five years ago after being a graphic designer for over 26 years. Tamra says, "I took a leap of faith and never turned back. It's essential to have a good balance between using your own creativity and business sense."
Tamra read an article about EWGA in The wichita Eagle and thought this type of organization was right up her alley. She was active in forming our local chapter of KWGA. She says she joined "so that I could play golf on a regular basis while networking with other business women".
Tamra grauduated from KU and is extremely happy with this year's national title. She says her favorite in town course is Rolling Hills while the mountain course at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs is her favorite vacation course as the view is spectacular.
Tamra starting playing golf at a very early age and has played for almost 41 years. She loves the game and plans to play for at least another 41 years. She did admit that she finally broke down just this year and instead of carrying her clubs she is using a pull cart.
Mary Hemmelgarn is Vice President of Finance and Accouting Outsourcing at Accenture BPO Services She joined EWGA to learn how to play and says, "As an executive woman I needed to take advantage of the opportunity to do business and socialize on the golf course". She enjoys all aspects of EWGA as she enjoys meeting and visiting with other members and has a great time at both social and player events. Her favorite local golf course is MacDonald. She played Lake Tacoma in Oklahoma and was taken aback by the beautiful ridges and breathtaking view.
For those who know Mary, you might be surprised to learn she ran the San Diego marathon in 2004. She says prior to training, "I didn't run even to get the phone" and is now an avid walker. And congratulations to Mary as she is planning to be married in June.
Mary's response to something I always do before I hit a shot, "I always smile and don't take myself too seriously. I"m just thrilled to be playing."
Cameron Michaud, an Attorney at Morris, Laing, Evans, Brock & Kennedy, Chtrd., a full-service law firm, has
a Husband, Greg and 2 year old son, Carter. Some exciting personal news is she is expecting another baby boy
in June!
Cameron joined EWGA to improve her golf skills and to have a weekly time commitment that would make her
go out and play golf. Her favorite EWGA events are, “All the events with silent auctions!! We always have
great items and it is a nice way to support our local chapter.” We asked Cameron what her favorite sporting
event to watch on television is and she said. “My 2 year old is obsessed with golf. He would prefer to watch
golf over cartoons or the Disney channel, so needless to say, I have watched more golf on television over the
last 2 months than I have in my entire life!”
Cameron’s favorite local golf course is Sierra Hills, because it doesn’t take 4 hours to play and it is the perfect
length to walk on a weekday evening. When asked what her favorite travel golf destination would be, she said,
“Having a little one, I don’t have this opportunity when we travel. But, I make sure to drive by the courses and
I have my list of courses that I want to return to in St. George, UT, Hilton Head, SC and Orlando, FL.”
For Cameron, EWGA has been a great way for her to improve her golf skills, through the golf clinics, leagues
and seminars. But even better than that, she has met so many great women and love’s being active on the
EWGA board as the social chair. “Golf is a wonderful life skill and I am glad that I can learn the game and have
a sport that I will be able to enjoy with my family for years to come”, says Cameron Michaud.
Robinn Scholfield is the owner of The Cleaning Authority, here in Wichita. She has a daughter, Kelsey, who
is 15 years old. The reason Robinn joined the EWGA was to learn more and have a structured time to play and
network. Her favorite event is everything from the clinics, to the golf leagues to the parties! She enjoys playing
at Sim Park because it is pretty and not too tough. Robinn learned to play golf at Terradyne and says she lost
WAY too many balls!
When asked what her favorite travel golf destination is, she said, “I played at the Grand Wailea Golf Club in
Maui in February. It was the most beautiful course I’ve ever seen, with every hole looking out to the ocean.
I also enjoyed playing Camelback in Scottsdale. It was incredible too.” Robinn continues to say, “Being a
business owner doesn’t allow much time for golf or hobbies. But I have found that golfing is a great way to
escape daily stress and that the friendships that I make on the course are very beneficial to my business, so I’ve
managed to lose the “guilt” over being away from the office!”
Something special she always bring to the golf course… she loves her golf sandals and wears them all year!
Something she always does before hitting a shot or making a putt on the course....Take’s a deep breath and will
visualize the shot. She said she will rarely take a warm up shot.
Karen Wedel was born in Hutchinson, Kansas and moved to Wichita in 1981. She is married to Rick Wedel and they have two married daughters. She also has a new grandson who is now 6 months old. Karen is a Certified Financial Planner and Registered Principal with AIG Financial Advisors, Inc. She is also a divorce financial analyst.
Karen played golf before her first daughter was born but found it too hard to find the time for golf once her children entered the picture. After her youngest daughter graduated high school she pulled out the golf clubs again. And we're all so happy she did.
Karen was our Greater Wichita EWGA Chapter president for 2007. She did a great job for us and is still very active as our past president. Karen says her favorite part of EWGA is the friendships she’s made with the “outstanding professional women” in our chapter.
Becky Thomas
I am so excited to put the spotlight on one very special lady in our Greater Wichita EWGA Chapter, Becky Thomas. Becky joined our chapter as a charter member. Becky has held several positions on the EWGA board. Her first year, she set the standard for our league play as the league chairperson. Becky is a former college golf player and is very talented. During college she played for Wichita State. She has been a golf teacher and continues to add value to our chapter by acting as a consultant. One of her most prized aspects of the EWGA is the friendships she has made over the past few years, and of course the Couples League on Friday evenings.
Becky is currently married to Steve Thomas and has one little girl, Allison. She is really looking forward to the golf season in 2008, with a large part being taking her two year old on the course more this year, along with her husband. Becky hopes to make some new EWGA friends for on and off the golf course fun!
Vicky Glennon
Vicky Glennon has been a Wichita Chapter EWGA member for the past three years. She joined so
that she could improve her golf game and meet other women golfers. One of the many additional
benefits to joining the EWGA, has been more time spent with her hubby of almost 30 years, Sonny
Glennon. Since they live near the number 1 tee box at Auburn Hills, it goes without saying that it’s
her favorite course. The Couples League and End of Season Gala are Vicky’s favorite events. She has
generously given of her time to support our EWGA chapter and Sonny is a generous sponsor as well.
Vicky is the proud mom to son, Bobby, and daughter Kimberly & her husband Eddie. She is also
the very proud grandmother of 4 beautiful grandsons. Vicky has many friends, some old, some new.
Once you become a friend of Vicky’s, you are a friend forever. She has a great sense of humor, is
very gracious, sweet and genuine. Her positive attitude is an asset in her position as a SR Operations
Representative for Bank of America. Vicky is very excited for the 2008 golf season to begin and is
looking forward to meeting new friends at the Tee Off party on March 28th.
Lydia Gillquist
A member of the Wichita EWGA chapter since 2005, Lydia Gillquist is enjoying the newfound
friendships she has made and looking forward to the 2008 golf season. As our chapter’s new League
Chairperson, Lydia has developed some fantastic leagues for this upcoming season. She has worked
hard to have leagues that work for everyone.
Lydia calls Auburn Hills her home course. She enjoys the challenges and opportunities that the
incredibly beautiful course provides. She enjoys playing with her husband, John as well as with her
fellow EWGA members. The next time you get a chance, ask her about her “4 item mantra” she
recites before each shot. “I definitely notice when I forget to do this”, she adds. She is a long time
golfer and generously shares her love of the game and any tips she reads or hears about for improving
your golf game. Lydia is looking forward to meeting you during this year’s season, hopefully on the
golf course.
